Steall Hut Falls Ice Climbing

The classic Steall Hut Falls on Steall Hut Crag in Glen Nevis, Scotland. Adam Hughes (www.hughesmountaineering.co.uk) and I found the falls mostly frozen and in very wet condition which made for great climbing. Scottish Winter Ice Climbing on Eas Anie, Beinn Chuirn. With heavy snowfall Adam Hughes (www.hughesmountaineering.co.uk) and I headed to this great little waterfall just outside Tyndrum. We chose a harder variation of the route taking the right hand side before completing the easy top pitch. The route was in great condition with soft, featured ice which gave some great climbing. Nice video only thought is was the use of the tree as an anchor. Was it the only way you could abseil down. Apart from the fact that trees are not 100% reliable if everyone uses the same tree then they become dead and very unreliable. You are on a mountain where life is hard. Save a life, no save two lives the trees and the next guy who decides mistakenly to use that tree as an anchor point for his protection after it has been damaged to the point where it is no longer a life saver but an accident waiting to happen.

Nice video lads. I climbed the 2nd ascent of this route, the day after the first in 1978. Glad to see its still getting traffic. Did you climb to the ridge? There is a hard pitch high up. All the best.

Tiny titles understood. coastkid71 uses velcro stuck to his camera and bike tubes plus retaining velcro straps to quickly and easily change the viewpoint may be worth having a word with him. cheers Alastair
